The Wonder Years - the American
comedy drama series
The most popular comedy drama series that
achieved huge number of popularity and got the love and praise of
thousand of comedy lovers is The Wonder Years. It was created by
Carol Black and Neal Marlens. Not only the adults but also the olds
enjoyed the program. It was started on ABC Television network in
1988. The pilot series was shown on the ABC in January 31, 1988 after
the coverage of Super Bowl XXII. It completed six seasons from 1988
to 1993. The total numbers of seasons were six and it contained 115
episodes.
The show was syndicated to rerun from September
1992 and September 1997. Then from October 13, 1997 it started to
rerun on Nick at Nite and continued till February 3, 2001. From 2001
to 2004 it was also reran on ABC family. Ion Television broadcasted
it from April 2 to October 4, 2007. Recently the show has totally
stopped telecasting in America and Canada but in Australia it ran on
111 Hits.
The show is a trademark for today’s TV shows
because it got numerous numbers of nominations and awards in the
shortest possible time. It achieved the spot in Nielsen Top Ten for
the two seasons out of six seasons. It was named as one of the20 best
comedy series of 1980s series. The series got the Emmy award for best
comedy series in 1988 just after completing six episodes. Fred Savage
for his outstanding performance as the lead actor for the comedy
series was very much praised. And he got the honor of the best
youngest actor at the age of 13. The show also got the Peabody Award
in 1989. By adding the awards the total number became 20 and the
numbers of nominatios were more than 50. The people said that the
timing of the show was perfect, the baby boomers were grown up and
they wanted to see themselves on TV.
The theme song was given
by Joe Cocker. It was from The Beatles' song "With a Little Help
from My Friends”. The title of the show was adopted from Wonder
Bread.
